Packing for the Helicopter - Do's and Dont's
Alcoholic Beverages:
No glass bottles. Cans and boxed wine is best
Fuel:
Pack flammable and breakable items separately in a plastic bag. This includes camp fuel, bear spray and glass bottles. Do not bury these items within your backpack.
Hand these items to our ground crew who will place them in a separate compartment in the helicopter.
Cooler:
Hard sided coolers will not be accepted. They do not fit on the helicopter. Place food items in a soft-sided cooler, duffle bag or small cardboard boxes.
Bags:
Hard-sided suitcases and/or suitcases with wheels will not be accepted. Pack your items in a soft sided duffel bag or backpack. See above for luggage size restrictions.
Pack
All items must be inside your backpack. We cannot accept bags with loose items dangling from the exterior straps. Ensure all items are secured tightly inside your bag.
Hikers:
Dress for the mountains before you fly. Conditions at Assiniboine Lodge can be colder and / or windier than those at the Canmore or Mt Shark Helipads. Wear your hiking boots and mountain clothing.
Skiers:
Dress for skiing before you fly. Conditions at Assiniboine Lodge will be colder, snowier and / or windier than those at the Canmore or Mt Shark Helipads. Wear your ski jacket, ski pants, ski boots and helmet (if applicable). This will save space in your luggage and keep you warm.
