Winter 2024 - Feb 18 to March 31:

Mount Shark to/from Mt Assiniboine flight: $205/person one way + 5% tax, includes 40lbs of gear. There is a $10 per pound penalty charge for any gear weighing over 40lbs. NOTE - A $25/person last minute booking fee applies for last minute flights booked at the lodge.

Canmore to/from Mt Assiniboine flight: $235/person one way + 5% tax (only 6 seats available) includes 40lbs of gear. $10 per pund penalty charge for gear over 40lbs. NOTE - A $25/person last minute booking fee applies for last minute flights booked at the lodge.

Flying gear only: $5/pound one way flight (includes tax) up to a maximum of 40lbs, anything over 40lbs will incur $10 per pound charge,

Excess baggage fee: $10/pound one way flight (includes tax) for anyone exceeding 40lbs.

We fly on Wednesdays and Sundays in the winter operational season.

***NOTE - there are no flights available in/out of Mt Assiniboine Provincial Park from April 1-June 20, 2024, and no flights available after Sept 30, 2024.

Summer 2024 - June 21 - Sept 30:

Mount Shark to/from Mt Assiniboine flight: $215/person one way + 5% tax, includes 40lbs of gear. NOTE - A $25/person last minute booking fee applies for last minute flights booked at the lodge.

Canmore to/from Mt Assiniboine flight: $245/person one way + 5% tax (only 6 seats available), includes 40lbs of gear. NOTE - A $25/person last minute booking fee applies for last minute flights booked at the lodge.

Flying gear only: $5/pound one way flight (includes tax) to a maximum of 40lbs, anything over 40lbs is $10 per pound.

Excess baggage fee: $10/pound one way flight (includes tax).

We fly on Wednesday, Friday and Sunday (on long weekends we fly Monday instead of Sunday) in the summer operational season.

To book flights online you will need:

Your Naiset Hut, Hind Hut or Lake Magog or Og Lake Campsite Confirmation Number. *Note a $50 cancellation fee will apply to false/non-existent numbers.
Everyone's first and last names.
Everyone's body weight in pounds. Note a $50 admin fee will apply to missing weights.
Payment with Visa or Mastercard.
You do not get to select your flight time. Flight times are assigned by the lodge the day before the flight. You will find out what time you fly when you check the flight schedule posted at the entrance to the helipad.

If booking Canmore flights, please check availability for both inbound and outbound flights prior to booking, sometimes one direction may not be available. If you are planning to fly inbound from Canmore, you cannot hike back to Canmore, the trail will lead you to Mt Shark or Sunshine Village so you will need to make arrangements for car shuttling. We do NOT offer shuttles from the trail heads back to Canmore, Banff or Calgary.

Please note, you cannot book flights if you don't have accomodation or a camping reservation number(at Magog or Og Lake Campgrounds) confirmed in the core area of Mt Assiniboine Provincial Park. FLYING IN and HIKING OUT IN THE SAME DAY IS NOT ALLOWED. A $50 fee will be applied to reservations without a camping/Naiset Hut reservation and your flights will be cancelled.

Canmore Flights

Canmore Heliport - please DO NOT call the heliport directly to book flights, they will not be able to help you. Please call Mt Assiniboine Reservations Office to book flights 403-678-2883, or better yet, book online - link above).

Location: 91 Bow Valley Trail, Canmore, Alberta.

Flight Check in: 9:30AM MST - (Please be on time)

The Canmore flight is the first flight into Mt Assiniboine Provincial Park and the last flight out of the Park. We have one flight in and out of the park with a maximum capacity of 6 seats. It is a 12 minute flight.
Bring your gear to the log cabin with the red roof at the Canmore Alpine Heliport.
Register with helicopter staff and watch a helicopter safety orientation video.

Mt Shark Flights

Mt Shark Heli-pad 36km south of Canmore accessed via Spray Lakes Road. Please check Alberta 511 for updated construction information.

Lodge Guests:

Mt Shark Flight Check in: 10AM MST
We offer multiple flights between Mt Shark heliport and Mt Assiniboine departing between approximately 10:30AM - 12:30PM MST, depending on how many flights are scheduled for the day and weather conditions. It is a 10 minute flight.
Park your car at the Mt Shark Heliport parking lot and carry your gear to the heli-pad (2-3 minute walk).
The flight schedule will be posted at the entrance to the Mt Shark heli pad and at Mt Assiniboine heli pad on the morning of flights, so you will be able to review the schedule for your specifically assigned flight time.
Check in with helicopter staff and watch a helicopter safety orientation video.

Naiset Hut Guests and Campers:

SUMMER: Mt Shark Flight check-in time is 11:00AM MST.
WINTER: Mt Shark Flight check-in time is 10:15AM MST.
Flights between Mt Shark heliport and Mt Assiniboine depart between approximately 11:00AM - 12:30PM, depending on how many flights are scheduled for the day and weather conditions. NOTE: You do not get to select your flight time. Flight times are assigned by the lodge the day before the flight. You will find out what time you fly when you check the flight schedule posted at the entrance to the helipad.
For Outbound Naiset guests and Lake Magog campers: The Park Custodian will reconfirm your flight time the night before your flight or you can see your flight time when you check in at the heliport with your luggage at 10:00AM on the morning of your flight.
If you are camping at Og Lake, the custodian will not come by, so please check-in at the helipad by 10:00AM with your luggage.
The Mt Assiniboine Helipad is located between Assiniboine Lodge and the Naiset Huts. The Mt Assiniboine Helipad is 300m from the Naiset Huts, 200m from Assiniboine Lodge and 1.4km from the Magog Campground.
Hut Visitors and Campers are responsible for bringing your gear to the Mt Assiniboine Helipad at 10:00AM. If there are updates, the Park Custodian will advise you then.

Rates are in Canadian dollars.
Mastercard and Visa accepted.
Prices are subject to change without notice.
Children under the age of 2 are free provided they ride on an adult's lap.
Subject to availability, outgoing flights can be booked through the park custodian.
Luggage restrictions apply.
All guests hiking or flying in from Mount Shark who wish to leave a car at the heliport or trailhead will be required to purchase a Kananaskis Conservation Pass.

Payment Policy for Helicopter Flights

Advanced booking is required to confirm space on the helicopter.
Full payment is required for hut visitors and campers.
Subject to availability, outgoing flights can be booked at Assiniboine Lodge. NOTE - a $25/person last minute booking fee applies to last minute flights booked at the lodge.

Cancellation Policy for Helicopter Flights

Helicopter flights cancelled more than 72 hours prior to departure are subject to a $50 per person non-refundable fee.
Helicopter flights cancelled less than 72 hours prior to departure are non-refundable.
Assiniboine Lodge is not responsible for delays or cancellations due to poor access conditions, government restrictions due to pandemics, or natural disasters.
Cancellation and medical insurance are strongly recommended.

Cancelled Helicopter Flights due to Weather Conditions

Cancelled helicopter flights due to poor weather conditions are extremely rare.
Assiniboine Lodge is not responsible for any fees or costs incured due to cancelled helicopter flights. We strongly recommend travel insurance.
There is no refund for the lost night of accommodation at Assiniboine Lodge.
Visitors delayed at Assiniboine are not required to pay for the additional night's stay.
When weather conditions allow, helicopter flights will resume.
